It’s harder to work out why Australia’s commercial free-to-air networks seem to find digital TV equally perplexing.

Those networks are now grouped with the ABC and SBS under the collective umbrella of a wealthy consortium called Freeview, and late last year they launched a series of campaigns promising “the next generation of free-to-view digital television”. It might prove fertile territory for a John Clarke satirical sitcom or a Rob Sitch Hollowmen-style farce.

FreakyTrigger reviews every UK #1 hit in chronological order. Here’s some sass about Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Actually one of the great things about this monstrous balladosaurus is how even Steinman overreaches himself - the record buckles when it hits its climax and I get the (almost poignant!) impression he wanted it go to even bigger. This despite the fact that for the whole of that climactic verse the track already sounds like Zeus using his thunderbolts to play a drumkit made of atom bombs. Tyler herself does a terrific job in riding this song - even though it wastes the smokier gifts heard on “It’s A Heartache”, most other singers would have simply been jetsam flung into insignificance by the production’s bow wave.

    Nice!

On Let It Bleed, a rating:

I like to give my comants on this music. This music is really old and lacks the guts nowadays music has.

Also the group uses just tooo little synthesizers and sampled choirs.

My advice it is boring oldfashunned and lazy and honors you to live in a bad path.

even Emma Em saes he loves his daughter (although I am not a fan at all).

Melbourne freelance documentary maker Kerry Negara said she was shocked to discover she would not receive the bonus, which she had planned to pay towards her mortgage.

The mother-of-two said she had earned less than $100,000 but missed out because she was able to claim a large number of expenses related to the production of a film.

“I could claim on the documentary, which meant the small amount of tax I did pay I got completely reimbursed,” she said.

“So even though I’m a low-income earner and my children both live at home and I was really depending on that $900, they are aged 19 and 20 so it’s just meant that I haven’t fallen into any of the eligibility areas.

YOU DIDN’T PAY ANY TAX LAST YEAR YOU SILLY HAG.

An Irish student’s fake quote on the Wikipedia online encyclopaedia has been used in newspaper obituaries around the world, the Irish Times reported on Wednesday.

The quote was attributed to French composer Maurice Jarre, who died in March.

Shane Fitzgerald, 22, a final-year student studying sociology and economics at University College Dublin, told the newspaper he placed the quote on the website as an experiment when doing research on globalisation.

SHOPPERS will need plenty of stamina to make it out of the biggest IKEA store in the southern hemisphere, to be built on an old tip in Sydney.

The famous IKEA one-way shopping aisle, which winds its way through the maze-like product displays, will measure 2.5km from entry to exit. At 37,000sq m, the store and its car park for 2000 vehicles will cover as much ground as 20 soccer fields.

HONG Kong train operator MTR — which will submit on Tuesday its bid to run Melbourne’s train system for the next 15 years — ran 99.9 per cent of its trains within two minutes of their scheduled time last year.

MTR (Mass Transit Railway) is 76 per cent owned by the Hong Kong Government and runs one of the world’s most modern metro systems.
